Vivian, an inexperienced journalist, visits Frederick, the caretaker of an ancient cemetery in an unspecified country, to interview him about two costumed individuals linked together by some unspoken bond and share an unusual secret. Frederick tells them about two costumers tied by mysterious circumstances who reside within it and can offer insight into this mysterious matter. Jimmie Levinson accuses former associate Paul Pattuchi of stealing cocaine and orders the murder of Clarice. Jimmie discovers Paul has died soon thereafter at his cottage, while during a dinner party Robert Downing first and then Mortimer and Rick come seeking answers about Paul, as well as an unknown suitcase with mysterious contents inside it. The second story takes place during medieval Europe, as David Deming and Tom Brewster pursue renegade priest James Flynn under cover of Inquisition authorities but actually in order to force him to reveal its secret of Eternal Heart so they may gain immortality themselves.
